Values are Priceless

In thinking about credit unions, I’d like to have a discussion about the values that shaped them.  The values are ones that I hold close to my heart, and are so intertwined that it’s difficult to focus entirely on one without tying it in to several others.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to focus on each value and explain why it is important, examine the challenges that interfere with delivering on that value, and brainstorm ideas on how we can bring that value to the forefront in our credit unions and our communities.

Here are the topics I can think of easily in two minutes:

  • Community-based cooperatives
  • Education and financial literacy
  • Access to affordable services and credit
  • Social justice
  • Social responsibility
  • Members are shareholders

Check back for the beginning of the discussion, and please leave comments if there are topics that I am missing in this list.  I’d like this blog to also serve as a forum for discussion.
